The monograph presents the method of modeling the conceptual bases of the semantics of the English names of adjectives.
Three categories of adjectives are investigated: “Mental characteristics of a person”, “Moral qualities of a person” and “characteristics of a person’s appearance”. As the study shows, the property of human thinking to interpret the world through antinomies manifests itself in the understanding of the sign: the conceptual foundations of these categories are formed by universal archetypal conceptual oppositions (light - darkness - death, movement - peace, their own - alien, etc), which set them and set The evaluative value of the adjective. The book discusses the properties of these oppositions in the formation of the semantics of the word: the ability to acquire inverse marking, integrate with each other, produce a greater or lesser number of meanings, which affects their quantitative representativeness at the linguistic level.
