Young engineer Andrey Prokhorov is terminally ill. Therefore, grasping at a fleeting chance, he agrees to participate in an experiment on transferring consciousness. And, after preparing, he sets off into the past.
Prokhorov finds himself in 1552 near Tula in the body of a 14-year-old orphan named Andreyka, the son of a minor nobleman who died during a Tatar raid. And now, the former engineer must, having inherited a meager piece of land, become a "pomeshchik" - a warrior of the local cavalry.
The estate is completely ruined, the peasants are killed by the Tatars, there is no one to plow and sow. There is almost no money. And in just a year, there will be a service where Andreyka must arrive "mounted and armed" - fully equipped as a warrior. Otherwise, it would be a disgrace and a loss of honor!
