The book examines the most important aspects of organizing public labor and the quality of work life from the perspective of the practice and theory of their regulation during the formation and development of industrial society. The key characteristics of labor are analyzed taking into account ensuring an acceptable quality of work life, the role that the state plays in organizing labor and achieving the material well-being of wage workers and their families in economically developed countries and Russia throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The legislation is current as of May 2017. Special attention is paid to issues of ownership of labor results, forms and organization of work, space and time of work, wages and pension insurance, state budget policy, labor protection, and worker health.
