Most of Ivan Krylov's life was spent in St. Petersburg. When he arrived in the capital with his family, who had lost their breadwinner and were in a difficult situation, the fourteen-year-old boy could hardly have hoped that one day there would be a monument dedicated to him here, erected on voluntary donations from the city's residents - a testament to the people's love and respect for the poet. This was the outcome of his literary path, which was full of genuine drama. Facing censorship and being in disgrace, Krylov often thought of leaving the literary field, but he remained faithful to his enlightening mission until the end of his life.
