The new book of the famous writer and historian Boris Sokolova is devoted to the legendary person, whom in Bessarabia called the "Last Guyduk" and "Ataman Hell, Gregory Ivanovich Kotovsky. After 1917, he turned into at least the legendary commander of the Red Army and the really popular Hero of the Civil War. The book shows that from numerous myths, which covered his name, corresponds to reality, and what has little to do with them. It is described in detail about such famous episodes from the life of Kotovsky, as participating in the capture of Odessa in the winter of 1920 and in the suppression of the Antonovsky uprising in the Tambov province in the summer of 1921, the reasons for its popularity are made, an attempt is made to reveal the motives of his mysterious murder. The biography of Kotovsky is represented against the background of the history of Russia of the first quarter of the 20th century, including the so-called "Bessarabsky issue"
