The books are analyzed by images of Khazar and Khazar kaganate, created in Russia for 100-150 years in various groups in different socio-political contexts. The basis of these images was very poor information about the Hazars, who received from scientists (historians, archaeologists) and created the foundation for a saturated public discourse, in the context of which it interpreted one way or another and was used to promote all sorts of political projects. Therefore, in the book, firstly, the history of scientific research is given, and is analyzed how the surrounding political situation has influenced the or other scientific interpretations of the materials obtained. Secondly, it shows which social powers and why were interested in Khazar issues. In this context, the images of the Khazar, created by various intellectuals, are investigated depending on their political inclination. Thirdly, various interpretations of the Khazar region are discussed
