Our journey with the outstanding Franco-Swiss archaeologist and naturalist Frederic Dubois de Montpere, which began in Crimea in 1832, returns again to Crimea at the end of 1834, and the last two volumes of the remarkable work "Journey Around the Caucasus" are dedicated to the exploration of the ancient land of Taurida, which not so long ago returned to its native haven. Thus, Crimea, which had been transforming since the 1830s of the 19th century into the Promised Land for the Russian aristocracy, for Dubois de Montpere was not only the starting point of travels but also the outcome, the completion of his research in the field of descriptions of new lands of the All-Russian Empire. The translation was done by Tatyana Fadeeva under the editorship of Vladimir Tkachenko-Gildebrandt. The appendix publishes the work of the remarkable Russian-American scholar, historian of antiquity, and archaeologist Mikhail Ivanovich Rostovtsev (1870—1952) "Hellenism and Iranism in the South of Russia" (1918), excellently illustrating the 5th volume of Frederic Dubois de Montpere, largely dedicated to the fates of the Bosporan Kingdom. The book is intended for a wide range of readers and will be particularly appreciated by those interested in Caucasus studies and Crimea studies.
