This book is a scientific biography of outstanding genetics, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Joseph Abramovich Rapoport, who opened strong chemical mutagenes and created a new scientific and a number of scientific and practical directions called chemical mutagenesis. The biography notes the outstanding events of his life - heroic participation in the Great Patriotic War, speeches in defense of genetics against Lysenkov region, nomination to the Nobel Prize, receiving the Lenin Prize and the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor. The book reflects the scientific fundamental directions of I.A. Raporot, as well as the contribution of chemical mutagenesis to agricultural selection and microbiology, medicine, ecology, in the creation and introduction of new highly productive varieties into agricultural practice.
