The book of Professor Gershon David Hunderta "Jews in the Polish-Lithuanian state in the XVIII century: the genealogy of the New Time", first published in 2004, is controversial in relation to the trend prevailing in Jewish historical science to consider the experience of Western European Jewry as a sample to describe the modernization process, or Change of new time. The author, using a wide range of various sources and object literature, is making a successful attempt to find out why the basis of the mentality of the Eastern European Jewry was a positive assessment of his national identity
