This unique book contains forty-three fairy tales, painstakingly collected from numerous pre-revolutionary sources, twenty of which are published for the first time since 1882. Classic fairy tale plots come to life here under the pen of English writer Gertrude Landa, classic of Jewish literature Yitzhak-Leibush Peretz, Austrian writer Leopold Kompert, Russian poet and translator Semyon Frug, and collector of Jewish folklore Solomon Beilin. In addition, the collection includes four more original fairy tales by writers Lazar Abramson, Tatyana Almedingen, Israel Levner, and Yehuda Steinberg. A distinctive feature of our edition is not only classic translations but also the rarest illustrations by Jewish artists Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, Simeon Solomon, Josef Israels, Lazar Krestin, Solomon Alexander Hart, and Isidor Kaufmann.
