The book includes selected stories by Giovanni Verga (1840-1922), the founder of the realistic movement in Italian literature. Born and having lived most of his life in Sicily, the writer knew better than anyone the truly Shakespearean passions that seethe in Sicilian towns and villages, quiet under the hot rays of the southern sun, how quickly blood boils among their inhabitants, what deep feelings this beautiful land generates.
The text of the stories is adapted using the Ilya Frank method: it is provided with a literal translation into Russian and the necessary lexical-grammatical commentary (without simplifying the original). The uniqueness of the method lies in the fact that the memorization of words and expressions occurs through their repetition, without rote learning and the need to use a dictionary.
The manual facilitates effective language acquisition and can serve as a supplement to the educational program.
