An ordinary office worker from Baltimore, USA, always dreamed of sea voyages. Together with a friend, Gilbert Clindgel bought a small yacht and secured the support of a local museum to organize a scientific expedition to study the deserted islands of the Caribbean Sea off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. However, the friends never reached their destination. Their boat crashed into the reefs of the Bahamas. After making it to shore, the amateur naturalists decided not to cancel the expedition but to simply change the object of study. Living in a semi-destroyed hut, they explore the island, stumbling over rocks, venturing into caves with bats, and swimming around the reef in the company of sharks. Despite all the difficulties of the journey, a few years later Clindgel returned to the island to continue his research. The diaries of the two expeditions formed the basis of this book. The book will be equally interesting to fans of extreme adventures and enthusiasts of books about the mysteries of nature.
