Programming languages from fortress and cobol to CAML and Java play a key role in managing complex computer systems. The book "Introduction to the Theory of Programming Languages" represents the reader the funds necessary for the design and implementation of similar languages. It offers a single approach to various formalism to identify programming languages - operating and dental semantics. Special attention is paid to ways to specify relationships between three objects: a program, input value and result. These formalizms are demonstrated by the example of such typical programming languages, as functions, recursion, assignment, recordings and objects. It is shown that the theory of programming languages consists not in a consistent study of the languages themselves one by one, but is built around the mechanisms included in various languages. The study of such mechanisms in the book leads to the development of calculators, interpreters and compilers, as well as to the implementation of the typewriting algorithms for training languages
