Nikolai Ivanovich Kareev (1850–1931) was an outstanding Russian historian and sociologist. During his teaching career at the University of Warsaw, Kareev prepared a comprehensive introduction for his university history course, outlining the main starting points for his future lectures. These lectures, according to the author's intention, were meant to be not only for the student audience but also for the general public in order to popularize the sciences of general education. This led to the creation of his work "Introduction to the Course of Ancient World History," which included a "Comparative Chronological Table for the History of Greece and Rome" and a "Course Program and Literature of Ancient History." The work was published in Warsaw in 1882 and was very successful among readers.
