Introduction to Reliable and Secure Distributed Programming

In modern computing programs, several processes are often combined. The main problem arising when creating such distributed programs is to force all processes to work together on solving a common task, even in case of failures of some of them. Under failures, it is implied: an emergency completion of some processes, loss of communication with them and even a malicious attack on some processes.
Kacin, Guerru and Rodriguez in this book presented an introductory description of the fundamental abstractions of distributed programming and algorithms for their implementation in distributed systems. The authors use a consistent approach, familiar readers first with basic abstractions operating in simple environments, gradually shifting to more and more complex abstractions and environment.
This book contains an introduction to distributed programming in abstraction and introduces fundamental algorithms and their implementations in several distributed environments. Before the reader, important problems of distributed computing and the main algorithmic methods of their solution will be disclosed. In detailed examples, the reader will be able to understand how to design distributed applications using these techniques. Discussion of each topic is completed by a variety of exercises and their solutions.
