This manual provides a perspective on digital traces from the side of the investigation, focusing on the step-by-step presentation of the most important aspects of evidence in criminal cases related to the use of information technologies. It discusses the concepts and subject of evidence and proof, provides their classification and types, describes physical and digital evidence, highlights the importance of involving a specialist, notes problems of objective attribution and causation related to the specificity of the technogenic "virtual" world. A significant portion of the material is dedicated to the organization and specifics of collecting and documenting evidence in criminal cases related to the use of information technologies, describing the variability of investigative tactics and procedural measures for proving and verifying evidence. Separate attention is given to the participation of a specialist (expert) and their presentation of evidence during court hearings in criminal cases involving the use of information technologies.
