The publication is aimed at developing skills for competent work with scientific and technical information. The textbook consists of an introduction and five chapters. The introduction provides general information on the functioning of scientific information. The first chapter describes the most authoritative publishers of scientific literature, discusses the search capabilities of publishing platforms, examines the advantages and disadvantages of the open access model, and touches on the issue of predatory publishers. The second chapter discusses databases of scientific publications and journals, describing the principles of working with their tools. The third chapter focuses on information about the identification of objects in bibliographic descriptions. The fourth chapter includes information on classification systems of scientific information. The fifth chapter describes bibliometric indicators and the principles of their competent use. Each chapter concludes with questions and self-assessment tasks, practical assignments, and a list of recommended literature. The textbook predominantly uses thematic resources related to Earth sciences as examples, but the information provided can be useful to specialists in other disciplines as well.
