In today's success-driven world, many lonely individuals feel like failures. "Never kissed, never touched, never hugged, never held hands, no friends, virgin" - this is how regulars of incel forums describe themselves, communities of men who have given up on finding a partner. Thousands of incels bitterly mock society, oscillating between attempts to improve their appearance and accepting a perpetual (as they see it) celibacy, pondering whom they hate more: women or themselves. And some decide to seek revenge - and turn to weapons.
In the book "Incels," practicing Swedish psychiatrist Stefan Krakowski opens the door to this world. He interviews incels, analyzes the crisis of masculinity, and explores the connections of radical loners with far-right movements to answer important questions: how do people become incels? How dangerous are they? And what can we do to ease their burden before it's too late?
