As part of the multinational Great Army, which invaded Russia in 1812, was the young Württemberg Lieutenant Henry August Fossler (1791-1848) Wounded in the Battle of Borodino, he miraculously survived during the catastrophic retreat of Napoleon from Moscow. Then Fossler again fell into the thick of military events, was captured by the Cossacks and spent almost a year captive in Chernigov. All this time he kept a diary, on the basis of which he later wrote memoirs about his misadventures. Both texts have come to our time, which gives a rare for this era to compare the direct perception of events with their understanding and processing later. It so happened that the original text of memoirs in German was never printed, and Fossler’s diary was not published at all. Filling this gap, the new issue of the Archivalia Rossica project continues the profile of the series: the publication of unpublished sources on the history of Russia of the XVIII-XIX centuries from Russian and foreign archives with parallel text in the original language and Russian translation. The texts are accompanied by a detailed scientific commentary, maps and unique illustrations of participants in the campaign of 1812 from Württemberg, also not yet published
