Nadezhda Alexandrovna Teffi (born Lokhvitskaya, married name Buchinskaya, 1872–1952) was a brilliant Russian writer who, alongside A. Averchenko, I. Bunin, and other prominent figures of the Russian emigration, left a significant mark on the history of Russian culture. Her works, both cheerful and sad, were always witty, filled with love and compassion for people, and showed a sensitive understanding of human weaknesses. As a reward for this, Teffi gained popular love and was awarded the title of 'queen of laughter'. The literary legacy of the writer is vast, yet for a long time, the creative output of her later years in emigration was unjustly overlooked. This collection consists of Teffi's stories and feuilletons from 1917–1919, some of which were included in her book 'Yesterday' (1918), while others were scattered across the pages of periodicals during the revolutionary period. Compiled together, they demonstrate how the fateful moments of history, dressed in the element of pure humor, combine the contemporary and the eternal.
