Nikolai Ivanovich Koroteev (1927-1978), originally trained as a medical professional, dedicated his entire creative life to the genre of detective and spy novels. Starting to be published in 1949, over the next three decades he published more than two dozen novellas and stories dedicated to this captivating theme. His books, as well as scattered publications in 'Iskatel', 'Vokrug sveta', and collective anthologies, have long become bibliographic rarities. The fourth volume of Koroteev's collected works, which the reader holds in their hands, includes novellas written in collaboration with Mark Borisovich Spector - a former Chekist who was in Makhno's hideout and later took part in the search for the treasures stolen and buried by Makhnovists. The volume also includes numerous stories and essays from different years.
