The book is based on materials from the "Raevsky Archive" (1909-1915) and is dedicated to the last decade of the life of Nikolai Raevsky Jr., the son of the famous hero of the 1812 war, and his friendship with General-Governor Vorontsov M.S. Appointed by Nicholas I in 1837 as the chief of the Black Sea Coastal Line, Nikolai Raevsky made a significant contribution to the development of the Crimean and Caucasian coastlines both as a military figure and as a researcher of the nature of the Black Sea region. The material for illuminating this period of Raevsky's life consists of private letters written to him in French by Vorontsov (1837-1842), as well as letters from his coastal neighbors Prince A.S. Golitsyn, J. Berkgheim, his fiancée, later wife A.M. Borozdina, T.B. Potemkina, and others, collected in the 5-volume "Raevsky Archive." Translated by T.M. Fadeeva.
The book is intended for historians, social scientists, students, postgraduates, and all those interested in Russian history and culture.
