Andrei Platonov's prose is an extraordinary phenomenon in Russian literature. His bright, original, and cohesive work impresses with the expansion of language boundaries, the broadening of the meanings of words, and the expansion of consciousness itself. Maxim Gorky wrote to Platonov: "In your psyche, as I perceive it, there is an affinity with Gogol. Therefore, try yourself in comedy, not in drama. Leave drama for personal pleasure." Platonov did not follow the advice, and as a result, literature received one of the most enigmatic writers, breaking any canon, who more deeply and fully than others reflected the tragedy of the people's orphanhood, torn by the revolution from its roots and abandoned to the mercy of the elements in a world where God no longer existed.
