Erik Erikson is a well-known American sociologist and one of the most cited psychologists of the 20th century. His concept of stages of human development has had a significant influence on modern psychology. The book "Identity and the Life Cycle," which includes three early works by the master, along with the book "Childhood and Society," is considered by many specialists to be the best introduction to Erikson's theory. The first work, "Ego Development and Historical Changes," is a quintessence of therapeutic and field observations that later formed the basis of the book "Childhood and Society." The second work, "Growth and Crises of Healthy Personality," goes beyond adolescence and describes all eight stages of personality development. In the third work, "The Problem of Ego Identity," Erikson systematically examines the crisis of identity from biographical, clinical, and social perspectives.
