The methodological manual corresponds to the course program "icon painting" of the Department of Sewing the Faculty of Church Arts PSTU, which includes the construction of the composition and linear pattern, the rules for the propocation of figures, drawing faces, hands and legs, the principles of constructing clothing folds. One of the main tasks of the department is the study and revival of the traditions of the Byzantine and Old Russian embroidery. At all stages of training in their works, students are relying on the experience of ancient masters, improving their individual artistic taste. For this purpose, the preserved monuments of the Old Russian and the Byzantine facial sewing are considered in the guide from the point of view of the visual features of the composition and pattern for embroidery
