The film “Icebreaker” (director Nikolai Khomeriki) recently released on the movie screens was shot based on the events that occurred in 1985 - the drift in the Antarctic of the Scientific and Explation Ship “Mikhail Somov” and the rescue expedition on the icebreaker “Vladivostok”. This story was the last Soviet heroic epic, which unfolded in high latitudes. It was widely covered in the press of those years, most of its participants received various awards. But soon times changed, the USSR broke up, Antarctic research has been conducted with great difficulty for many years, and they practically forgot about the epic of Mikhail Somov.
