Ivan Ivanovich Lazhchnikov (1790-1869) - one of the brightest Russian writers of the XIX century, who was standing at the origins of the genre of the Russian historical novel. His most famous work of the "Ice House", published in 1835, literally agreed to the reading public of Russia, surpassing all its expectations.
The author has so impressively recreated the atmosphere, the traits of life and the morals of one of the most dramatic eras of the Russian history of the XVIII century - the time of the reign of Empress Anna John, her favorite of Biron and the Germans under the Russian court, that his novel is still, after a half century, Keeps its attractive force. In the center of the story - the romantic and touching story of the love of the main characters - Mariorians and Artemia of Volynsky, brave and unrestrained both in love relations and in the case of the limitless ministry of Russia.
It is not by chance by A.S. Pushkin predicted a long life: ... Poetry will always have poetry, and many pages ... this novel will live, the Russian language will not be forgotten
