The elder truly was a 'people's priest': he not only selflessly served God for 32 years in a rural church in the depths of Yaroslavl region - he lived the same life as the villagers: with believing grandmothers and women, with men who had fallen away from the church, deceived and troubled by godless authorities, yet still preserving purity of soul, inner simplicity, and a striving for truth.
