The bright and brief life of Lord George Gordon Byron (1788-1824), and the poetic images he created, had an incredibly powerful impact on his contemporaries. The definition of the 'Byronic' hero became a common term - his romantic gloominess and disillusionment even turned into a kind of social phenomenon. The fate of the lord himself - an eternal wanderer driven by passions - also aroused great interest. In the upper Russian society, traditionally Francophone, Byron's work provoked an interest in the English language. His translators were outstanding poets of many generations, it is enough to name Mikhail Lermontov, Alexander Blok, Valery Bryusov.
The collection presents Byron's lyric poetry - from youthful experiments to poems written in the last days of his life.
