The present assembly of writings and letters I.A. Thrycharov, manufactured by the Russian Academy of Sciences, produced by the Institute of Russian Literature, is the first full academic publication, including all its texts, both completed and unfinished. The publication includes artistic, journalistic, epistolary heritage of Goncharov, its business papers are also included in it. The texts were first prepared on the basis of a thorough study of all existing sources of published text - printed and handwritten - and also first printed accompanied by preparatory materials, early editions and options, and the initial editions, which are fundamentally different from the final text, are completely reproduced.
Each text of the writer - from the novel to a small newspaper article, unfinished design or draft sketch - is accompanied by a textual, historical and literary and real commentary, which takes into account the results of the work of preceding researchers - domestic and foreign
