Hungry blood

Boris Evseev is one of the most vivid and unusual writers of modern times. His works, written in the style of mystical naturalism, attract with non-trivial plots, recognizable authorial intonation, and imagery, as if materialized Russian language. All these qualities make the prose of the writer a unique phenomenon in today's literature. The stories and novellas included in the new book depict memorable episodes of history and present days: the jester Osip Gvozd, who was executed by Ivan the Terrible, and the jesters of today, the mysterious Karthasht and the execution of Terentiy African, the present-day southern Russian steppes riddled with shells, and the true incident with the skull of Sergius of Radonezh, dangerous involvement in samizdat during Soviet times, and ultra-modern Moscow - pass before the reader in a series of fantastic, yet absolutely real pictures. The novella and stories were published in the magazines 'Novy Mir', 'Literature', and 'Proletkult'. Two stories are being published for the first time.
