Svetlana Pavlova is a writer, a resident of the Peredelkino Creative House, a graduate of the "Creative Writing School" and "WLAG," as well as a master's program in "Literary Craft" at the Higher School of Economics.
The heroine of the novel "Hunger," Lena, is thirty years old. She has a clear established life: career, mortgage, parties, friends. And also - bulimia: for over ten years she has been on a diet, relapsing, starving again - and so on in a cycle. One day Lena meets a man suffering from kleptomania. Thus begins a story of mutual healing from a disease that supposedly does not exist, that they do not know how to treat, and that is shameful to talk about in society.
"Hunger" is a novel about how difficult it is to fight beauty standards and the ideal body, how the idea of self-love turns from banality and triviality into a rule of life.
"In our country, we have a special relationship with food. Food for the older generation was a way to show care and concern. At the same time, stereotypes in movies and magazines require women to be someone they are not. The heroine of this text found herself in the Procrustean bed of modern culture. And this story is a fierce attempt to break free from everything that makes a woman hate herself."
Oksana Vasyakina
"It is I/we standing in front of the mirror hating ourselves. But if the heroine emerged from this nightmare, then there is hope for us too."
Marina Stepnova
