Anton Chekhov's first steps in Russian literature were as an author of humorous stories under pseudonyms, for example, as Antosha Chekhonte. His literary debut took place in the St. Petersburg magazine 'Strekoza' with stories in the parody genre. The first collection of the writer's stories was prepared for publication, but never saw the light of day... Chekhov wrote: 'In Moscow, there are publishers-printers, but in Moscow, the censorship will not allow the book, because all my selected stories, by Moscow standards, undermine the foundations.' However, the sparkling, witty humor of Anton Chekhov charges with a positive attitude towards human nature, despite our inherent flaws and misconceptions. Chekhov's laughter, sometimes cheerful, sometimes sad, sometimes slightly satirical, is aimed at purifying human nature from vices, and therefore elevates.
