Ivan Alekseevich Balakirev (1699–1763), court servant under Peter I and Catherine I, later the jester of Anna Ioannovna. It was famous for his wit, ingenuity in the draws (their object often became the royal favorite of A.D. Menshikov), often protected the weak from the arbitrariness of higher ones. These and other funny situations are reflected in historical jokes. They give a picture of the life and everyday life of the royal court, as well as the customs of that time (Reprint edition)
