What makes people human? As science and technology challenge the boundaries between life and non-life, between organic and inorganic, this old question becomes extraordinarily timely. Timothy Morton, a prominent representative of object-oriented philosophy, invites us to view this philosophical question as deeply political. In our relationships with non-human beings, we determine the fate of our humanity. Becoming human, Morton asserts, actually means building relationships of solidarity with non-human beings for a broader understanding of reality that simultaneously includes and transcends the concept of species.
