How are academic careers in different countries arranged? What do you need and what do not be done to successfully climb on their steps? This question is worried about three different audiences. First of all, the answer to him interests everyone who stands at the foot of the academic ladder and estimates their chances to climb on it. He also takes the administrators who break their heads over how to rebuild this staircase correctly, so that the climb was easy for decent and difficult for unworthy and that professors only became those who contributed to the science and higher education. What is the human and intellectual price of each of the possible devices of academic ladder? Based on a comparative study of the Sociologists" Quarry in the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, USA and France, the authors analyzed the winning and losing options for academic destinies in each of these countries and tried to explain what institutional and cultural factors determine the specifics of the existence of scientists in five national sociologies
