Medieval thinkers, almost always men, adhered to concepts composed of a mixture of classical ancient philosophy and Christian theology. They considered the epitome of female attractiveness to be the mythical Helen of Troy with her pear-shaped figure, small breasts, and golden hair. As for their contemporaries, upon whom the shadow of Eve's sinfulness fell, they saw them as lustful sinners, insatiable and unrestrained. A decent woman was supposed to be a nun or an ideal embodiment of motherhood.
