Housing construction in the USSR 1955-1985. Architecture of the Khrushchev and Brezhnev era.

Housing construction in the USSR during the period of 1955-1985 is an extremely controversial and unfairly forgotten topic by modern researchers. The goal of this book is to reveal the role, history, and significance of perhaps the most extensive housing construction program of the 20th century. Along with classifying mass housing construction in the historical and architectural context of Soviet modernism, this study identifies ten key parameters for the development and implementation of standardized housing projects using the examples of three cities in the former Soviet Union: Moscow, Leningrad, and Tashkent. The importance of panel housing cannot be overstated, not only in the context of industrial housing development in the USSR, but also in terms of shaping the lifestyle of more than 170 million Soviet citizens and the appearance of most Soviet cities.
