World War II veteran Helmut Günter recalls his time serving as a dispatch rider in the motorcycle battalion of the 'Das Reich' division. The author vividly describes how he and other young recruits quickly learned motorcycle driving techniques on the go in combat conditions, how they fought, celebrated victories, and endured defeats. He depicts the state of euphoria as German troops marched across Europe, and the fierce resistance they faced in battles with the Russians, followed by retreating along snow-covered Russian roads, frostbitten and hungry. The book is richly illustrated with rare frontline photographs.
