On the eve of the Great Patriotic War, the Russian emigration in the Manchurian Empire (Manchukuo) found itself at the center of political intrigues and the interests of the intelligence services of the Soviet Union and Japan, with the emigrants themselves becoming hostages of high politics. The authors examine the life of the Russian emigration in Manchuria before and after the Japanese occupation, the influence of the Soviet-Japanese military conflicts of 1938-1939 and World War II on the fate of the emigration. Special attention is paid to the management bodies of the emigration, the main political currents - the 'defenders' and the 'defeated', the struggle for power within the diaspora, the use of emigrants in Soviet intelligence, and the fates of emigrants after the defeat of Japan in 1945.
