Leonid Panteleev (real name Alexey Ivanovich Yeremeyev) was born in 1908 in St. Petersburg in the family of the Cossack officer, the hero of the Russian-Japanese war, the mother - Alexander Sergeevna - came from a merchant family. In 1918, Alexei"s father disappeared, and the family, fleeing from hunger, moved to Yaroslavl province. Three years later, the boy after a variety of adventures returned to Petrograd and for theft and adventures was sent to the Labor School named after F.M. Dostoevsky (Skid), where he received the nickname Lyong Panteleev. At school, he met a friend and the future co-author of Grigory Belykh, with whom in 1927 released the book Republic of the Skid.
In addition to this book, Leonid Panteleev wrote works that became the classics of domestic children"s literature - the story Package (1933) dedicated to the Civil War, the main character of which, Peter Trofimov, was recognized as the literary brother of Vasily Turkina, the stories Honest Word (1941) and new (1943), the cycle White and Tammarochka (1940-1947), Letter You (1945) and many others.
Writer died on July 9, 1987
