The book is devoted to the history of civilian uniforms in the Russian Empire during their occurrence and regulation in the second half of the 18th and first half of the 19th century. The publication is a detailed reference prepared on the basis of an analysis of legislative sources, archival materials and memoirs of contemporaries. For the first time, information about Russian civilian uniforms is given in the most complete and systematized form. The text of the book is illustrated in detail by the author’s schematic drawings of uniforms and sewing, historical portraits of officials in uniforms and other images.
The first volume of the publication entered in 2021. In addition to the general history of civilian uniforms and descriptions of individual elements of a former costume, information about the uniforms of provincial nobles and officials and employees of higher state establishments was included.
The second volume tells about the uniforms of civilian ministries and departments, scientists and educational institutions and charitable organizations.
The third, the final volume of the publication will be dedicated to the uniform of the ranks of the imperial court, serving the court department and civilian officials of militarized departments.
