The book of a design teacher and designer-consultant Alexander Kira contains materials from almost a twenty-year study in the field of design of bathrooms. The monograph, first published in 1966 and reprinted with additions in 1976, became an important milestone in the coverage of the theme of bodily departments and personal hygiene. The author examined in detail the processes and procedures that are performed in the bathroom, analyzed the current state of plumbing equipment and proposed criteria for optimal design. He accompanied all this with interesting historical and cultural essays, shed light on the questions of the perception of the body and its natural need in modern Western civilization. After almost half a century, the materials of the book are still sharply relevant - in accordance with the author’s observations about the extremely slow progress in this “forbidden” and “closed” sphere
