Today, the name of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai is known, perhaps, all over the world. Hokusai is one of the leading masters of color woodblock printing of the Edo period (Tokugawa 1603-1868) and one of the most famous artists in Japan. He is well known in Europe, Russia, with much being written about him, his works being studied and explored, and exhibitions of his works regularly held in different countries, with documentaries made about his art. Hokusai was one of the masters who helped introduce Japanese art as a separate artistic world, one of the first to become known in the West. Hokusai's legacy is enormous. He lived a long life, almost 90 years, and during that time created a huge number of works. These include woodblock prints, book illustrations, painted scrolls and screens, and monumental murals. To this day, there are about thirty thousand of his works. Each new researcher and era discover previously unknown aspects of his art, different, resonant with their time, in the boundaries of his creativity. This mini-album, accompanied by a large number of colorful illustrations, tells the story of the life and work of the great Japanese artist and introduces his works.
