The book describes the mechanisms of the development of drug resistance in HIV-1 to the main classes of antiretroviral drugs and provides data on its prevalence among patients without experience of taking such drugs and in case of the ineffectiveness of antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens. It discusses the current indications for prescribing ART and conducting a test for HIV resistance to antiretroviral drugs in clinical practice before starting ART and in case of the ineffectiveness of the ongoing ART, criteria and reasons for virological failure.
