History of Ukraine

British scientist, diplomat, politician, and businessman William Edward David Allen conducted a thorough geopolitical analysis of the Ukrainian region from Kievan Rus to the beginning of World War II. The development of Ukraine and its disputed borders can only be understood by examining its relations with Lithuania, Poland, Austria-Hungary, Scandinavian countries, the Ottoman Empire, Mongol khanates in Crimea, Cossacks and hetmans, and of course, Tsarist Russia, and later between Germany and the Soviet Union. Allen's history is interesting in terms of the national question that torments multinational empires, including all neighboring states of Ukraine in the past and present, and which still causes tension in Ukraine today.
