Reprint 1901. The unfinished work of Golubinsky "History of the Russian Church" occupies a special place in the historiography of the Russian Church. Each volume contains additional materials on Russian liturgical life, spiritual enlightenment, attitudes towards foreigners, etc., based on manuscript texts. Golubinsky was the first to widely use Byzantine and Western European writings. The historian subjected sources and many generally accepted facts, especially related to the early history of the Russian Church, to critical analysis, declaring them doubtful. Evgeny Evsigneevich Golubinsky (1834-1912) was a historian of the Russian Church and church architecture. An ordinary academician of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in the department of Russian language and literature (1903). He is considered a supporter of positivism. He played an important role in the canonization of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Author of the book "History of the Canonization of Saints in the Russian Church".
