The main completed work of the Russian military historian and emigrant A.A. Kersnovsky (1907–1944) was the four-volume "History of the Russian Army," published abroad in the 1930s-1940s and gaining immense popularity in modern Russia immediately after its first publication in the early 1990s. It is a history of the Russian land army written in the context of a single concept, starting from the times of Peter the Great to the fall of the Russian Empire. In this book, you will not find boring lists of military units with detailed descriptions of their locations, meticulous calculations of force ratios, detailed analytical descriptions of campaign plans and their execution. The author was able to find concise but extremely accurate and exhaustive characteristics of the main parameters of the armed forces' preparation for each war, succinctly defining the most important factors of victories or failures. That is why his book reads like a fascinating cohesive work of art with a clear plot, where the main characters are the Russian nation, its state, and its army.
