P.V. Golubovsky (1857-1907) was one of the prominent representatives of the so-called Kiev historical school, a doctor of historical sciences, a professor of Russian history at Kiev University. He paid a lot of attention to the events of the inter-princely war of 1015-1019 for the inheritance of Vladimir the Great, largely becoming a pioneer in the study of this important period. The Severian land - modern Chernigov, Novgorod-Seversky, Bryansk regions and adjacent territories - can indeed be considered the hypothetical geographical center of the Ancient Rus state. Contemporary testimonies, chronicles, and other historical sources help the scholar to uncover the dramatic events of that time.
