The book 'Descartes: His Life, Works, and Teaching' marks the beginning of the 'Academic Project' publishing house's reissue of the classic work by Kuno Fischer (1824-1907) - his famous 'History of New Philosophy', which includes, besides the monograph on Descartes, fundamental biographies and expositions of the philosophical systems of Bacon, Spinoza, Leibniz, Kant, Fichte, Schelling, Hegel, and Schopenhauer.
In the 'Introduction', the author's views on the science of the history of philosophy are presented, and a panoramic overview of the development of philosophy from its inception in Ancient Greece to the end of the 16th century is given. The first book of the main part is a biography of Descartes against the backdrop of the political and cultural events of his era. The second book contains a systematic exposition of Descartes' philosophy. The translation used as the basis, edited by N.N. Polilov (1906), was verified and corrected according to the German original.
The edition is equipped with a detailed Subject and Name index.
The book is an unparalleled example of historical-philosophical literature and represents undeniable value, primarily for philosophy students, as well as for specialists, philosophers, and historians, and for a wide range of readers interested in the history of philosophy.
